In 2019, shortly after his father’s passing, Brantley joined the LIFE-based program in search of knowledge and guidance. He was presented with an opportunity to join a social group and learn from Self-Advocacy meetings, which helped Brantley realize the importance of connecting with others who shared similar experiences. Through the LIFE-based program, Brantley dedicated his time to building new friendships and making meaningful connections. Despite the challenges posed by COVID-19, he focused on learning new ways to overcome barriers and adapt to changing circumstances.
For the past seven years, Brantley has worked at Starbucks, where he has developed strong relationships with his co-workers, taken on new responsibilities, and felt a sense of inclusion. His work experience has contributed to his increased independence, as Brantley has learned to confidently perform tasks on his own while seeking help from his LIFE Coach when needed, progressing at his own pace. The LIFE Based program has provided Brantley with more opportunities to achieve his goals, helping him understand that he can accomplish significant things through hard work and perseverance. Additionally, he has learned to establish and communicate healthy boundaries that suit him best.
Brantley views life as a maze of doors, with the LIFE Based program offering him the chance to choose the path that works for him.
